The upward-moving escalator's drive chain snapped during the morning rush hour, according to Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the city's metro operator. Thirteen people were injured in 2014 when an escalator connecting Line 2 and Line 7 malfunctioned. From Pudong the bus is usually faster and more convenient than the subway connection. The ride takes about half an hour from Hongqiao Airport and 45–60 minutes depending on traffic from Pudong Airport. This station is located in Jing'an District, below the historic Jing'an Temple and the Jiu Guang shopping mall. Jing’an Temple is located just outside of Jing'an Temple train station in the midst of modern high-rise offices, and is extremely easy to find. At the time of our visit, there was a mass selling of mooncakes at RMB 9 per mooncake, and we decided to purchase 18 of it back home. There is a small souvenir shop beside this temple too, but we didn’t fancy anything there. This temple is not really that photogenic but its worth visiting once. Though there are two levels to this temple, its actually quite a small space and one can finish touring within less than an hour. This is a peaceful temple, and I chanced upon 2-3 Caucasians during my trip here. Like other temples, there is an entrance fee of RMB 50 per person, and additional charges for the purchase of incense for prayer. The temple is generally well preserved, though slightly aged. There are lesser tourists in this temple compared with Jade Buddha Temple. It is an ancient temple with a history and houses different Buddha in multiple shrines, and mainly attracts devout local Buddhists to pray. Guest rooms offer air conditioning and a desk, and Hanting Express Shanghai. Jing’an Temple, like any other typical Chinese monastery, is preserved in traditional Chinese architecture. Now that we have seen the temple I will only go back when my parents visit, I do not need to see it again. It wasn't too busy (four days before the new lunar year) so it was very pleasant to walk around. Same thing for my wife (she isn't local either) luckily we had cash (can't remember the last time we carried any so we were sent inside and off into the room at the right, under the bell tower, which seems to be a place just for donations there was a walled area in the middle with coins and notes, like a dry wishing well. ![]() Set 4 km from the centre of Shanghai, Hanting Hotel Shanghai JingAn Temple offers free WiFi. Having seen the temple from outside on a number of occasions (living in in Shanghai since summer 2020) we finally got around to being in the area when it is open so we went in. It say here that 2-3 hours is needed we were there for less than one and that was fine. Tickets are 50RMB - open daily 7am to 5pm according to Smart Shanghai).
